  • People watch from the Mare Island "Spirit Ship" as a Perigee Moon rises over the Alfred Zampa Memorial Bridge spanning the Carquinez Strait in Vallejo, California.  The "Supermoon" appears 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter as it makes it's closest approach to the earth this year.

  • The "Ghost Ship", adorned with hundreds of LED lights,  glows as the sun sets over the San Francisco Bay December 23, 2011.  The art piece is located high above the southern end of Mare Island in the Shoreline Heritage Preserve.
